Hello - I am looking to see what type of software you use and the pros and cons. In the past I used ECHO and loved it and found it made our lives quite efficient. I am now using Cactus and do not find it user friendly at all. I am hoping this is only because I am not as familiar with it. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you! Physician or Surgical Assistant how would you credential or would you credential this provider?

I have a new situation to our facility: I have a physician who is requesting privileges for another physician to act as his surgical assist. The problem is the (assist) is not Board certified or Board eligible (our requirements for a physician). So they would like to request Allied Health surgical assistant privileges for him. However, our policies require that a Surgical Assistant must have completed an accredited surgical assist program to be eligible for privileges. Obviously this doc falls outside of both the policies and the bylaws. If you were to credential him, would you credential him as a physician as he does hold a medical license or as a surgical assistant even though he falls outside of the training requirements (even though he is qualified)? Or would you tell him I am sorry you fall outside of the scope of our bylaws and policies and we are unable to accommodate your request? I know it is ultimately the Board and MEC's call if they allow either but am kind of looking for precedent. Thank you for any insight you can give me. Beth Simmers Methodist McKinney Hospital

Good Morning Talk Line Members, Please advise, with the electronic medical record system, is it possible to put a "hard-stop" in the program to recognize who does or does not have admitting privileges? For example, "Consulting Telemedicine Medical Staff" typically do not have privileges to admit patients. CORE PRIVILEGES IN MDSTAFF

1. Entering as one privilege to be checked

2. Entering each privilege with a check box.

We are changing over to Core privileges, but are trying to prevent using a "laundry list" in MDStaff where each privilege must be checked that is requested.
