My question has a few parts. Our facility was recently tasked with improving our OPPE indicators to make them more specific to practice. Previously, we had indicators for each of our Medical Staff Departments (Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Medicine, Pathology, Pediatrics, Ob/Gyn, Radiology and Surgery). We did not delineate specialty groups within the departments, however, are trying to do so now. Due to the size of our facility, some specialty groups (i.e. Hem/Onc with 1 provider, Psych with 2) have very few providers.

1) What are facilities with a like-size Medical Staff doing for these groups? Are you grouping them together or have you been successful at identifying indicators relevant for their practice specifically.

Also, we are having trouble with physician engagement in some specialties to assist with identifying valuable OPPE indicators.

2) How have you encouraged and recruited providers to be engaged in the OPPE process and selection of OPPE indicators? It seems most providers brush over this data and do not believe in its relevance to their delivery of care.

In summary, we are having trouble identifying valuable OPPE indicators for specialty groups within our departments.

FPPE question for those who work in a multi-hospital healthcare system: What is your FPPE process for no-volume providers at your hospital, who are high-volume providers at other hospitals within your system? For example: Have you ever asked the no-volume provider’s primary hospital (being one of your sister hospitals) to complete an FPPE evaluation form based on his/her performance at the sister hospital? If so, will you please share your process? This question is not about reappointment, but is for completion of FPPE.

FPPE for specific procedures

How do you all determine a recommended FPPE assignment for certain procedures? For example, endotracheal intubation. I am fairly new to this career, and FPPE is still a beast to me. I tried to look up the white papers on this procedure, but can't find any. Thanks.
